Foreman

Summary

Supervisor of crews anywhere from 2-10 guys.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Determines the priorities for work to be done.
  2. Orders the needed material so it is available when needed.
  3. Determines the number of journeyman and apprentices needed to perform the work.
  4. Leads troubleshooting efforts.
  5. Attends on-site meetings with the general contractor and the other trades working on the project.
  6. Works along side his crew when the previous tasks are completed.
  7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  •  A current Washington State and/or Oregon Journeyman Plumber’s License. High school diploma or GED; has performed work directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to run crews anywhere from 2-10 guys.
  • Plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair skills.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
  • Ability to develop and implement planned maintenance programs.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follows safety procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

  • Position Requires: a) Estimate jobs, layout and material selection; b) Interpret plumbing and mechanical system building prints;

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Journeyman

Summary

A trained plumber who has completed their apprenticeship. Must be fully knowledgeable in the skills required to be a plumber.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Install systems used to transport waste, water, gases, or liquids.
  2. Ensure all systems are in accordance to city, state, and federal codes.
  3. Install kitchen sinks, bathtubs, toilets, and water heaters.
  4. Read and Interpret Blueprints.
  5. Mentor apprentices as needed.
  6. Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures, and equipment
  7. Test piping systems and repair leaks.
  8. Coordinate with foreman on installation.

Minimum Job Requirements

Apprentice

Summary

Apprentice Plumbers are expected to assist in the assembly, and installation of water and drainage systems. They also attend school once a week to enhance their knowledge of the trade, and to reach their goal of becoming a journeyman plumber.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Listen and follow through on direction provided by their supervisor.
  2. Assist journeyman in the installation of water and sewer piping.
  3. Install plumbing equipment such as kitchen sinks, bathtubs, toilets, and water heaters.
  4. Assemble and install valves and fittings.
  5. Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment
  6. Dig trenches for new pipelines.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; willing to perform work directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Listen and follow through on direction provided by their supervisor.
  2. Clean and prepare job site.
  3. Delivering and unpacking of materials.
  4. Drilling, sweeping, and cleaning.
  5. Digging of trenches for new pipelines.
  6. Fire caulking of plumbing penetrations.
  7. Clean and wash vans.
  8. Insulate pipe as needed.
  9. Driving to the supply house for material pickups.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; willing to perform work directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Endurance and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to understand and communicate information.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task.
  • Hard working.
